Mermaid

This is one of my most popular images, “Mermaid.” Originally captured at the seaside in Portugal, it took many years of experimentation, first in the pre-digital era and finally with modern digital tools, to achieve the final result. The model, a young girl at the time, saw the completed work 30 years later, surrounded by her grandchildren. As I travel, seeking nature's beauty—woods, seas, deserts, and sometimes urban landscapes—I capture reality with my camera. The real artistry begins at home, where manipulating an image can take days, weeks, or even much longer.
